Back to Football

NFL will kick off the season tonight 8:30 ET 7:30 CT at Lambeau Field on NBC.
This will be the third time in five years that the Saints have played in the league opener (W against Minnesota at NO last year and a L at Indianapolis in '07). This hype this year's opener will surround the last two Superbowl MVPs Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees.
Whether you're a fan in Dallas, New York, New England, or Chicago, everyone across the nation will have their eyes glued to tonight's coverage on NBC. In supporting the New Orleans Saints it would be nice to support the New Orleans Commercial Movers and their team.
And if you aren't into the old pigskin there's going to be a huge pregame concert featuring the likes of Kid Rock, Lady Antebellum, and Maroon 5.

Film Crews in New Orleans

New Orleans has been the site for a new movie called, "Ricochet". New Orleans movers, Hug Condon takes pride in the film crew selecting New Orleans as the set of the upcoming movie. We have a beautiful community and it's a blessing to have so much beauty for a director to want to capture that on film. According to wwltv.com, Well, the movie is set in Savannah, Georgia, and we picked New Orleans, because it has such an outstanding film community here, "said "Ricochet" Executive Producer Jim Head. "We have great crews, we have great local casting available to us, the locations are absolutely fantastic, and you know there is a strong tax incentive program in Louisiana for us to bring production to the state." And that tax incentive program means jobs for Louisiana natives like Willie Stringer. "it's real busy right now. It's phenomenal for the city, for the Lousiana workers, it puts Louisiana people to work, and the tax incentive is phenomenal, " Stringer said.

More Floods in the Greater New Orleans Area

Floodwaters threaten the Greater New Orleans Area once again. Many people fear for the worst as some flooded areas and the flooded Mississippi River bring back terrible memories from the 2005 floods caused by Hurricane Katrina. USA Today spoke with Linda Jackson, who lost her home as a result of flooding from Hurricane Katrina and is now president of the Lower 9th Ware Homeowners Association. New Orleans appears to be safe after the Army Corps of Engineers opened two major spillways(Bonnet Carre and Morganza spillways) which seemed to level off the flooded river at about 17 feet by displacing the water over 1.3 million acres of homes and farm land. The earlier prediction was set to be 19.5 feet which is dangerously close to the 20.1 foot floodwall, though if there is a breach they predict it will cause flooding far worse than that from Katrina. Local engineer H.J. Bosworth stated that the city is well protected and that the likelihood of a breach is remote, but some New Orleans residents are taking extra precautions such as packing birth certificates, property deeds and other important documents to store in a secure location. Some have even gone as far as to relocate, utilizing local New Orleans Moving Companies.

Ozone Action Day

In case you didn’t know, the state of Louisiana has issued Friday, May 6th 2011 an “Ozone Action Day” According to www.nola.com, “Calm winds will limit pollution dispersement, combined with sunny skies and temperatures in the 80s should enhance formation of ozone.” Apparently the conditions outside will be unhealthy for the community, and the Air Quality Index will be at an Orange level. The following parishes should take caution: Orleans, Jefferson, St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, St. Tammany, St. Bernard, and Plaquemines. New Orleans movers, Hug Condon would like to advise anyone who suffers from asthma, or any disease that affects your respiratory system to take caution when being outside for an extended period of time.

Your Household’s Drywall May Be Defective

Was your home rebuilt by Catholic Charities of the Archdioceses of New Orleans? (The church’s program, Operation Helping Hands, has been rebuilding houses in the New Orleans area since 2007.) If OHH had a hand in rebuilding your household, you should probably check your drywall for any signs that it may be defective.

Turns out that large quantities of defective drywall was imported from China during a housing boom and after numerous Gulf Coast hurricanes. The defective drywall has already turned up in corrosion cases in thousands of homes throughout Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Virginia and Louisiana. If you know that your drywall was recently replaced, it probably would not hurt to check your home’s condition.

Fires Run Residents Out in Eastern New Orleans Neighborhood

Those people living in the eastern New Orleans neighborhood known as Bunker Hill may want to consider calling a local moving company to come and pack their things. The 7000 block of Boston Drive has seen 29 fires in the past two years, more than any other neighborhood in New Orleans. Though the fires have occurred mostly in vacant properties, it does little to calm the nerves of local residents. Young arsonists are suspected to be setting the fires, but any specific suspects have yet to be identified.

With fires running rampant in the Bunker Hill neighborhood, many residents aren’t waiting around to be hit next, or again. With so many positive renovations and reconstructions in New Orleans since Katrina, it’s disheartening to see a different neighborhood affected like this. Would the many fires in this small New Orleans neighborhood cause you to relocate somewhere new

Gold Tooth Saves

Here's a bit of odd news for you this afternoon. A fight between two New Orleans brothers over some marijuana ended with one brother being shot. BUT, here's where it gets goofy, the brother who was shot was spared any injury or death, all thanks to his gold teeth. That's correct, a silly vanity tooth saved a man's life. And even though the brother was shot, (in the face, basically), he decided not to press charges against his brother because he was currently on probation. Brotherly love, right?
